- Project Guidelines -

Student steps to complete a successful project:

1. Select your topic.

2. Formulate your question guide your research and/or investigation.

3. Formulate your hypothesis.

4. Conduct your research / investigation.

5. Submit a completed Project Abstract Form, by April 13, 2012. One abstract per project.  The abstract includes details about your project. Follow the steps listed below to ensure a successfully completed Project Abstract Form.
   a. Complete the Abstract Working Word Document. This form will assist students in the
development of the Abstract. Be sure to save the
Abstract Working Word Document on your
computer. Once the abstract is completed on this form, the information can be "cut and pasted" into
       the online form.
   b. Be sure to review proper
References citation format and cite your references properly.
   c. Complete the online version of this document only after completing the
Project Abstract Form. You
must complete the online form all at one time and cannot save your work in this format.

6. Complete your research / investigation. Use the conference theme "Living the Green Life" and relate it to your science project.  For example, a project about pollution in the Spokane River might include ideas on how people can "reduce their impact" on the river, resulting in cleaner water.

7. Prepare for the conference:

Posters:  Freestanding tabletop displays no larger than four feet in width. Posters must have the student name(s) and school name on the lower right hand corner.

Presentations:  10-minutes, including 1-2 minutes for audience questions at the end. Use some type of visual aid (overheads, flip-charts, props, slides, PowerPoint). An overhead projector, computer projector, and slide projector will be available. If you use PowerPoint and plan to use our equipment, you must provide the file on diskette one week prior to the conference date. You are welcome to use your own equipment if you desire. It is a good idea to bring back-up visuals (overhead versions of PowerPoint slides, a copy of the presentation file on disk) – technology does fail sometimes!

Other Presentation Formats:  If a poster or PowerPoint presentation doesn't fit the needs of your research project, there are other formats to use.  Try presenting your research project findings in a skit, newspaper, photo essay, book, website, or documentary.

8. Each student will have to submit a Signature Form (Word) (PDF), due April 13, 2012.

Teacher steps to allow students to participate in the conference:

1. Submit a Pre-registration Form for your class by Friday, March 2, 2012.

2. Guide students in the development of their hypothesis.

3. Guide students in research efforts or setting up investigations / experiments.

4. Guide students in the development of their abstract form submittal.  Only "A" abstract projects will be accepted.

5. Assist with student submittal of the Project Abstract Forms. One form per project. Due April 13, 2012.

6. Assist with student submittal of the Signature Forms (Word) (PDF), due April 13, 2012.
